Vulnerability, the danger of showing wounds and infirmity.
It attracts endless animosity from people with greedy power needs,
Thus we think it simpler to never display our teeming feelings,
As if, somehow, we could forget for a time what it’s like to bleed and weep.
But vulnerability is also the source of humility;
Without it, we wouldn’t know our spiritual need.
The pain reminds us to not be conceited and self-pleased,
But know that all we can do is plead and believe.
Though we can’t immediately see how suffering will lead to peace and deep meaning,
Jesus will remind our hearts that with our weakness He’s well pleased.
