Reflecting creation in praise of the Creator
When I take walks in my backyard and enjoy the scenery around me, I’m motivated me to create. I think God helps me learn to “stop and smell the roses,” which helps reduce my stress. It also inspires my work itself, which centres on the beauty of God’s creation. I want to use the gifts God has given me to show his glory in nature.
Recently, I spent a year and a half on an illustration project for a Bible study. I hope the book will help people gain more understanding of God’s Word, portrayed through the writing and illustrated pictures. Each new project and painting provides an opportunity to keep learning and growing as an artist. One of my recent areas of focus has been learning how to work with colours more to create depth, light, and texture with various shades and colours of paint.
I’m still a young artist myself, but I’m learning how important it is to find what you enjoy doing most. In my own experience, I’ve seen God help me grow those gifts.
If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut creatively, it never hurts to take a break and pay attention to what’s around you. Inspiration may come more easily when you’re well rested. You can also talk to God about your lack of inspiration and ask for your passion to be refreshed and renewed.
