Most people will acknowledge that we should find ways to help make the world a better place. But have you stepped into that role yet? It seems as though everyone, everywhere, is running around trying to find out their purpose for life. I spent so much time chasing a big career that I sometimes missed the opportunities laid out right in front of me every single day.

I had to ask myself the question: What if my purpose has nothing to do with me at all? I want you to ask yourself the same question. Our purpose, what we were created to do, has a higher value than money, image, or selfish gain. Purpose is about making a difference in the lives of people. When you hurt someone else just to get ahead, it only proves you don’t know how to love yourself.

Yourself is a very small world to live in, isn’t it? If we can get honest with ourselves for a minute, you and I both want more out of this life. We want harmony, resilience, and joy, but we won’t find that in ourselves alone. So, here’s the second question: How can your uniqueness make a difference in someone else’s life?

Our Creator has given each of us gifts, talents, and passions that no one else has. God made no mistakes when He created you. We can align ourselves with His design and let the opportunities unfold before our very eyes. There is a woman on your bus route that needs to hear your story. There is a co-worker who is lonely and needs a friend. There is a man who has cancer and needs your warm smile.

I’m learning that purpose is found in the unfiltered, ordinary moments when I take my eyes off myself and look to the world around me.

There’s a new day that stretches out before us. A new light is dawning, full of potential and wonder. We can hold a new perspective for our purpose, allowing us to be alert, open, and engaged with the people around us. There’s no need to rush out the door in a stressful state, because there’s not a place we’ll go where God has not already stood. We can allow our body, mind, and soul to slow down and see the open doors right before us.

With this new approach to our purpose and identity, we can maintain the inner quietness and hear God so we can experience His touch. We can feel the rising of the sun and know He’s been waiting for us. We can experience the promises of His love and let our hearts beat for Him.

Yourself is a very small world to live in. Look up and let Jesus, as revealed in the Bible and by His Holy Spirit, show you your true purpose.
