I see a church rising
where mental health is loved.
Where those who live in shackles
of broken hearts can come.
Churches say the doors are open,
that anyone can come in,
but mental health tears hearts apart
and sometimes we can’t win the battle to be present.
But we desperately need to be seen
you see?
We’re fighting for our lives inside,
fighting to find peace.
A battle you may never see
beyond your wildest dreams.
We’re fighting alone
because the church hasn’t been told
how to reach in.
Maybe the church needs professionals
to teach
that spiritual warfare and mental health
are symptoms of the same disease:
Being Human.
Maybe then the church could be
the eyes and ears to meet the needs
of hurting minds who don’t feel safe to come in off the streets.
Our country needs this church to rise
especially as we live in times
of confusion, searching, and disbelief.
Church, it’s time to get off your feet and on your knees to be the heart of Jesus and help reach a world that is waiting.
Please.
“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest’” (Matthew 11:28).
