Joel Gordon:
Exclusion and Embrace by Miroslav Volf

Do you ever wonder about the theological connections between the topics of justice, oppression, identity, belonging, truth, violence, and peace? This book weaves the power of Jesus’ defeat over sin on the cross together with an exploration of the self and the other.

David Guretzki, the EFC’s executive vice-president and resident theologian, first introduced this book to me. It is part of the curriculum of a course on reconciliation he teaches at Briercrest College and Seminary. I hope to take the course in the future. Until then, I’ll enjoy reflecting and re-reading this book.

Mark Stewart:
Encounter Podcast

I stumbled upon the Encounter Podcast during my exploration of different ways to encounter God in the morning stillness. This podcast is a delightful, welcoming space that introduces you to simple but meaningful guided prayers. You are invited to encounter the presence of God through these guided meditations.

Ilana Reimer:
The Chosen

The Chosen is the first-ever multi-series show about the life of Jesus. It’s not meant to be a word-for-word retelling but rather to unpack the heart and meaning behind the stories in the Gospels. The show gives us a more vivid picture of the context of Jesus’s time.

I was skeptical at first. I expected cheesiness or dramatization. Instead, The Chosen uses powerful acting and storytelling to bring the Gospels to life. I’ve watched the first season twice now, and I’ve encountered Christ each time. I highly recommend watching it!
